AMHERST — A woman was arrested downtown near the Rotary Town Fair Monday afternoon after allegedly exposing herself to and cursing at several children, according to police.

Melissa A. Standley, 45, of 619 South East St, was arrested at 1:47 p.m. near the intersection of Boltwood Avenue and Spring Street on charges of disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and open and gross lewdness, Detective Nicholas Chandler said.

Police took two 911 calls from concerned parents when Standley allegedly began yelling at their children, Chandler said. She then dropped her pants, intentionally exposing her buttocks to them, Chandler said.

When officers got there, Standley was continuing to be disruptive and refusing to calm down.

Her arrest was one of two incidents during the Memorial Day weekend in which a disturbance downtown led to an arrest.

The other happened Saturday at 10:55 a.m., when Jose Martinez-Lugo, 73, of 33 Kellogg Ave., apartment 72, was arrested near the intersection of North Pleasant Street and Kellogg Avenue on a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, Chandler said.

Martinez-Lugo allegedly used a small knife to scratch another man in the chin, Chandler said.

Martinez-Lugo told police that the victim, who was riding his bicycle in the vicinity, had called him names and spit on him prior to the incident. The other man is not facing charges.
