AMHERST — Six teenagers are being summoned to court for being minors in possession of alcohol after officers from Amherst and the University of Massachusetts police departments monitored a gathering in North Amherst Tuesday afternoon.

With temperatures in the low 80s, police were called to Townehouse Apartments, 50 Meadow St., at 3:17 p.m. where college-age people were hanging out.

Alcohol, including beer cans and a bottle of whiskey, were seized from several, as officers remained on scene until 7:35 p.m.

Amherst Detective Sgt. Brian Daly said the incident did not rise to the level of a disturbance and no arrests were made.

UMass spokesman Edward Blaguszewksi said four UMass officers responded to North Amherst to provide mutual aid.

With so many people loitering in the area, UMass Transit had its buses bypass stops on Meadow Street and sections of North Pleasant Street for more than an hour.

The warm weather also prompted a call at 1:48 p.m. to the beach at Puffer’s Pond, where people were drinking beer, despite a prohibition on alcohol. They agreed to dump the open containers and return the remaining beer to their vehicle.
