After tweeting exclusively eye emojis for days, Frank Martin can finally explain why he’s so fired up.

The UMass men’s basketball team rounded out its roster with two more freshmen and another South Carolina import. Martin can’t discuss recruits or commitments until a player officially signs.

Incoming freshmen guard Jaylen Curry and center Mathok Majok will join a Class of 2023 already four players strong. Curry is the No. 140 Class of 2023 recruit according to 247Sports and a top-20 point guard recruit. He spent last season at Calvary Christian Academy, where he averaged 16.5 points, 5.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game last season. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native won gold for Team USA at the 2021 U16 FIBA Americas championship.

Majok averaged 12 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks per game last season at Bridgeport Prep in Connecticut and reclassified from the Class of 2024 to the Class of 2023.

“The excitement about who Mathok can become as a basketball player is what coaches love,” UMass coach Frank Martin said in a release. “He is a humble, hardworking, young man that's been gifted with a 7-foot-3 frame. He has great footwork, can really run, and has really good hands for someone his size. We're excited for the obvious shot blocking and defensive presence that he can bring to practice every day and for the player that he can become as he continues to develop his offensive skills.”

Daniel Hankins-Sanford will transfer to UMass after one season at South Carolina. The 6-foot-8 forward appeared in 22 games for the Gamecocks and was a three-star recruit.

Hankins-Sanford and Curry were teammates at J.L. Chambers High School in North Carolina.
