Amherst police arrest two Vermont men on drug charges

AMHERST — Two Vermont men in possession of heroin and cocaine, including one allegedly trafficking the drugs, were arrested in South Amherst early Saturday morning, according to police.

Chaz E. Sobolewski, 29, of Bellows Falls, was arrested at 12:38 a.m. on West Bay Road on charges of trafficking between 36 and 99 grams of heroin and trafficking between 18 and 35 grams of cocaine, police said.

Christopher Arthur Baxter, 32, of Brattleboro, was arrested at the same time and place on charges of possession of class A and B drugs, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, police said.

The vehicle the two men were in was pulled over on West Bay Road after its registered owner was determined to have a suspended license.

Following the arrests, the vehicle was towed from the scene, police said.
