High schools: Greg Stone, Cam Graves combine for 43 points in Smith Academy’s win over Smith Voc

The Smith Academy boys basketball team rode a 22-8 advantage in the second quarter to take a local rivalry win against Smith Vocational, 73-61, on Wednesday night.

Greg Stone, Cam Graves and Garret Willard almost combined to score 60 of Smith Academy’s 73 points.

Stone scored a team-leading 23 points on 7-of-15 shooting. He also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and a seven of his nine free throws. Graves filled the stat sheet with 20 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Willard hit five 3-pointers to finish with 17 points.

For Smith Voc, Dom Sanchez scored just six points in the first half, but exploded for 25 in the second half to lead all scorers with 31 points. Myles Chinappa, fresh off a 50-piece against Gateway on Monday, added in 14.

​​​​​Belchertown 45, Quabbin 43 – Jackson Couchon scored 12 points and Cal Orzech went for 11 to help the Orioles to a tight independent win on Wednesday.

Girls basketball

Northampton 58 Pittsfield 44 – In a battle of two of the best teams in all of Western Massachusetts, the Blue Devils received a big game down low from Ava Azzaro to capture their 15th win of the season on Wednesday.

Azzaro, who joined the 1,000 point club in Monday's win over Wahconah, continued to torment Berkshire County competition with a team-high 22 points on Wednesday. She was 8-for-10 from the free throw line and scored 10 points in the first quarter to help Northampton set the tone.

Emme Calkins registered 13 points for the Devils (15-3), while Bri Heafey hit a pair of 3s and finished with six points. Anna Oravec also scored six points in the win.

Smith Voc 52, Westfield Tech 19 – Smith Voc never allowed more than 10 points in a quarter and only let up seven total points in the first half.

Makayla Tatro (18) and Jayanna Daniels (15) led the Vikings in scoring.

Smith Academy 65, Duggan 36 – The Falcons secured automatic qualification into the Division 5 state tournament with a dominant win at Duggan.

Anna Seagel paced the Falcons (10-8) with 16 points while Caitlin Graves chipped in 13 and Emilia Neves scored 11. Duggan’s Tionne Garner-Summer led all scorers with 19 points and canned a pair of triples.

 

Baystate 54, PVCICS 25 – Mahri Hayden scored 10 and Emma Vasovic added six.

 

Hampshire 49, Granby 36 – The Raiders only led by two at halftime, but held Granby to just 10 second-half points to win the regular season finale.

Shayne Moynahan scored 15 and Addie Miklasiewicz added 13 for the Raiders.

Granby’s Kalli White scored 20 points – including 10 of the Rams’ 15 in the second quarter.

Quabbin 41, Belchertown 21 – Chloe LaRoche led the Orioles with nine points, and Morghan Litz added seven.
