Plainfield sets special Town Meeting for approval of money transfers

PLAINFIELD — Voters will be asked to approve the transfer of funds from two building accounts at a special Town Meeting to be held Tuesday.

Article 1 requests the reallocation of $58,079.13 from the highway garage roof account to a highway garage update/repair account for the purchase and installation of a heating system and other improvements to the building.

Town Accountant Paul King said there had been a failure in the highway garage heating system within last month, and that while highway employees are getting by with makeshift heating, the garage needs a new system.

The money in the roof account was left over when the $50,000 voters appropriated for repairs was insufficient to cover the work, King said.

Under Article 2, voters will be asked to approve reallocation of $26,000 from the Town Hall heating account to a town building improvements account to provide for the town’s share of Green Communities Designation Grant projects.

The meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall.
