EASTHAMPTON — A 21-year-old Southampton man died on Tuesday morning after the vehicle he was driving crashed near an intersection on Pomeroy Meadow Road in Easthampton, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

According to the DA’s office, the vehicle was driving eastbound on Pomeroy Meadow Road, failed to stop at a stop sign, and struck a guardrail at the intersection of Loudville Road, Glendale Street, Pomeroy Meadow Road and West Street.

Easthampton Police and Fire responded to the scene at approximately 6:40 a.m., followed by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS), Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and Massachusetts State Police Detectives from the DA’s office.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the official cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Laurie Loisel, director of communication and outreach, said the DA’s office will wait 24 hours to release the name to ensure that next of kin know and can notify others who need to know.

Roads closed and detours were put in place near the scene of the crash for several hours. Closures and detours were lifted at around 1:15 p.m.
