Saint Francis redshirt junior forward Josh Cohen announced his commitment to the UMass men’s basketball program Thursday on Twitter.

The 6-foot-10 New Jersey native averaged 21.8 points and 8.3 rebounds per game with seven double-doubles in winning the Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Year. He was also named first-team all ECAC and to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 15 team.

“Thankful for this whole journey! @SFUathletics  Thank you for taking a chance on me! I love the community in Loretto and will cherish my time there forever,” Cohen tweeted. “I now am excited for this new chapter.”

He also thanked UMass athletic director Ryan Bamford and assistant Derek Kellogg, who coached against him during his time at LIU. Cohen has two years of eligibility remaining.

Saint Francis went 13-17 last season and lost to Fairleigh Dickinson (which upset No. 1 seed Purdue in the NCAA Tournament) in the NEC semifinals.

Cohen scored 40 points against Hawaii and Lehigh and had at least 30 points against NCAA tournament teams Miami and FDU. He shot 58.5 percent from the floor with a team-high 77 assists, 28 steals and 27 blocks.

His 1.11 points per possession were the third most efficient in college basketball behind Chattanooga’s Jake Stephens and National Player of the Year Zach Eddy of Purdue.

Cohen selected UMass over the likes of Penn State, Iowa and Florida.
