SPRINGFIELD — The Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) will offer pre-paid weekend service through the end of May. No fares or passes will be needed for PVTA bus and paratransit services on Saturdays and Sundays.

Additionally, PVTA will be piloting a pre-paid program for after-school transportation. This program will be available to students 18 and younger with a valid school ID after 3 p.m. Students will be able to access all routes within the PVTA system for after-school activities, clubs, sports, work or internships.

These pilot programs are made possible with funds appropriated by the Legislature for the Regional Transit Authorities Fare Free Pilot Program for FY24. Included in this funding is the current pre-paid fare program that will end Dec. 31.

“The PVTA is appreciative of the Legislature’s funding. These pilot programs are a great way for the public to try PVTA services and a fantastic opportunity for students to get involved in after-school activities” PVTA spokesperson Brandy Pelletier said.
