Alpine skiing: Hampshire Regional's Edward Przybyla wins second PVIAC race in a row

For the second race in a row, Edward Przybyla stood atop the mountain on Tuesday night.

The Hampshire Regional senior captured his second consecutive individual victory during PVIAC Meet No. 3 at Berkshire East Resort in Charlemont. Przybyla’s time of 30.79 seconds was nearly a full second ahead of the field in the boys’ giant slalom race, a performance that paced four Raiders in the top 10 overall.

Dawson Kelly was fifth for Hampshire in 33.43 seconds, while teammates Evan Novak (6th, 33.81) and Jon Dunn (10th, 35.02) also skied well.

Amherst’s Beckett Baird was the runner-up individually, moving through the course with a second-place time of 31.72 seconds. It was Baird’s third consecutive top three finish to open the season.

Mohawk Trail put three skiers in the top 10 overall, as Phineas Tuttman (34.57), Grayson Bishop (34.93) and Ben Makosiej (35.01) went 7-8-9, respectively.

Keller Mahoney was the first skier down the mountain for the Northampton boys’ team, as he was 12th overall in 35.46 seconds. Teammates Charlie Ames (14th, 35.73) and Alex Sirois (17th, 36.03) were other top 20 finishers for the Blue Devils.

PVCICS’ Teddy Scott cracked the top 20 with an 18th-place performance (36.04), the best on the Dragons’ roster. Clayton English was 19th (36.05) and James Scott took 21st (36.11) for PVCICS.

Other top 25 finishers locally included Mohawk Trail’s Gage Patenaude (14th) Wyatt Sisum (16th), and Alex Schreiber (25th), and Hampshire’s Isaac Stith (19th) and Billy Warren (22nd).

For the third race in a row to open the season, Mohawk Trail freshman Addie Loomis took home top honors as the girls’ teams competed in the slalom on Tuesday at Berkshire East.

Loomis cruised to the top spot by nearly two full seconds, besting the field with a time of 44.74 seconds.

The Warriors had three of the top four finishers in the race, as Emmy Sisum was second (46.58) and Mae Hoff, who attends Frontier and skis on the Mohawk Trail co-op, was fourth (48.92).

Hampshire Regional’s Ella Cleary posted her second consecutive third-place finish to pace the Raiders, as she crossed with a time of 46.98 seconds.

PVCICS’ Sarah Fardal took seventh overall to pace her team (49.52), while Mohawk Trail’s Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner was eighth (49.60).

Hampshire’s Dana Warren registered an 11th-place showing (52.29), while teammate Talya Gilman was close behind in 14th (57.97).

Other top 25 finishers locally included Mohawk Trail’s Caroline Makosiej (15th), Naomi Den Ouden (16th) and Ohia Delhert (22nd), Amherst’s Vivi Bernier (20th) and Northampton’s Maisie Tuck (25th).

The fourth race of the season is slated for Thursday at 5 p.m. back at Berkshire East.
