AMHERST — Guests pouring out from a Phillips Street home, where a loud party was taking place and a DJ was using a speaker system to play music from the back porch, led to two residents being issued tickets for violating the town’s nuisance house bylaw.

A 22-year-old Amherst resident and a 20-year-old Hermosa Beach, California resident will both be issued court summons for violating the town’s nuisance house bylaw as the people leaving the home Sunday at 12:31 a.m. created a hazardous situation by making it impossible for emergency vehicles to pass on the road, police said.

With mild weather, the Phillips Street party was one of 14 noise complaints brought to police over the weekend.

Another big party took place Saturday at 4:50 p.m., where officers assisted East Pleasant Street residents in sending people on their way after the gathering, registered through the Party Smart program, got out of control. The residents were cooperative in sending people on their way.

At 10:16 p.m. Saturday, police broke up a loud party on South Pleasant Street after getting complaints from residents as far away as Amherst Woods. Police determined the party had been going on since 3 p.m.

The only arrests related to alcohol consumption came Saturday at 1:25 a.m., when two 18-year-old men were taken into custody for violating the town’s open container bylaw and being minors in possession of alcohol. They were located on North Pleasant and Fearing streets and initially gave police officers fake names.
