Missing Montague man found in Amherst

HADLEY — A missing man from Montague, who left the area of a Hadley hotel on Route 9 on foot early Tuesday morning, was located in Amherst Wednesday afternoon and is safe, according to Hadley Police.

Hadley Police around 2 p.m. Wednesday announced on its Facebook page that Henry “Hank” Appleton, 72, who left the Courtyard by Marriott, 423 Russell St., around 2 a.m. Tuesday, was found.

The department thanked the public for its assistance.

During the time Appleton, who suffers from memory impairment, was missing, his image was captured on a surveillance camera near the Amherst College campus at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. Before leaving the hotel, he had sought a taxi cab ride to Northampton.
