EASTHAMPTON — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that left a 23-year-old man dead in Easthampton early Tuesday morning, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

Easthampton police were called to a home on Culdaff Street around 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, where they found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he died shortly after 4 a.m.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested on a single count of murder in connection with his death. She will be arraigned on the charge Wednesday in Northampton District Court. Authorities did not name the victim or the suspect.

Easthampton Police and detectives assigned to the State Police unit attached to the district attorney’s office are continuing to investigate the homicide. On Tuesday afternoon, investigators and other personnel were outside a unit at the Rail Trail Apartments.

The death is the first homicide in Hampshire County this year, and the first homicide in Easthampton since 2012, when Jessica Ann Pripstein was killed by her boyfriend, Ryan Welch. He was convicted of murder in 2014 and is now serving a life prison sentence.

There were two homicides in Hampshire County last year. Craig R. Weise, 35, of South Hadley, was charged with the September 2022 killing of his father, and Devin R. Bryden, 24, of Northampton, was charged with the July 2022 killing of a roommate in Northampton.
