Amherst police arrest Maine man on drug, gun charges

AMHERST — A loaded handgun, wrapped packages of cocaine and a significant quantity of marijuana led to the arrest of a Portland, Maine man, and former Amherst resident, early Saturday morning, according to Amherst Police.

Justin C. Satterfield, 30, was arrested at 2:12 a.m. on Pelham Road, following a traffic stop, on charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of more than 10 ounces of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute a class D drug, marijuana, possession with intent to distribute a class B drug, cocaine, and failure to stop/ yield, police said.

Inside the vehicle, officers observed multiple pounds of marijuana, as well as baking supplies that appeared to be associated with making edibles from the drug, according to police.

During a search of the vehicle, a 15-round loaded firearm was found inside the center console. During a search of Satterfield, five individual wrapped packages of what appeared to be cocaine were discovered, police said.

Satterfield was scheduled to be arraigned at Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown Monday.
