I am writing to support the re-election of Charley Rose to the Worthington Selectboard.

This endorsement will no doubt surprise some of you who are aware our recent public disagreement over a matter of substantial importance to our town. Although the words we exchanged were at times quite heated, the issue has since been resolved by a compromise in which Charley played an important role. Both of us recognize that accepting less than a full loaf is sometimes necessary if our shared goal of serving our community is to be achieved.

My support for Charley is based on his demonstrated record as a doer on behalf of Worthington. Over the past nine years, he has worked tirelessly, if not always diplomatically, to maintain and improve our town. He worked for creation and success of our local elementary school, for the preservation and improvement of our police and fire departments, and helped to achieve major improvements to the services and fiscal health of the nonprofit ambulance company that serves Worthington.

He also was an active, critical member of the citizens committee that brought not one but three broadband options to town voters a few years ago.

I hope that you too will reflect on Charley’s strong record of positive service to our town and vote for his reelection.

Steve Smith

Selectboard member, Worthington
