As someone who grew up in Westhampton, I was saddened to read of a newcomer’s unhappy experience moving there from Philadelphia (“The cult-like mentality of rural living,” Gazette, March 15).

I had no idea about the pervasive unfriendly and unwelcoming atmosphere in Westhampton, or that all the apparent hostility there can be explained by the racial makeup of the town. However, I think I just may have found a great solution to the letter writer’s woes.

Route 66 cuts straight through Westhampton. If you take it east, you wind up in Northampton. Once there, just follow the signs for I-91 South, and take it to its southern terminus in New Haven. From there, simply merge onto I-95 South and continue on your way. That highway goes right back to Philadelphia!
