Bob Cilman: Bombyx deserves our support to help make building compliant

All of us at Young@Heart applaud the officials of the city and the creators of Bombyx Center for Arts & Equity for finding a way forward from the impasse that temporarily shut down Bombyx from presenting an amazing line-up of music in that historic Florence building.

Y@H is a resident company at Bombyx and we rehearse there every Monday morning. We have experienced firsthand the energy and commitment that Cassandra Holden and Kyle Homstead bring to the arts in our community. They have become part of our family, so much so that Kyle’s uncle is one of the newest members of our group. In our current repertoire Ray Homstead translates to English “Soneto XI” a poem by Pablo Neruda, the great Chilean poet. In it Neruda writes “Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.”

If you want to hear the rest of that poem in Spanish and English, join us for a free concert on Thursday, June 15 as part of the Florence Summer Concert Series at the Florence Civic Center. We will be celebrating the accomplishments of Bombyx. We understand that they are just at the beginning of the monumental task of raising the money needed to make the building fully compliant. The concert is free courtesy of the Florence Civic & Business Association, but we will be passing popcorn buckets around for your loose change. Bombyx deserves our support!
