Betty Ussach-Schwartz: Recent Trump coverage not fair and balanced

The MAGA base was fed red meat, the audience was entertained and enthralled, and CNN lost all credibility as a fair and balanced news channel It’s difficult to determine what aspect of Wednesday night’s Donald Trump town hall spectacle was most depressing and distressing. Donald Trump, without medication or an imprisonment, will always be a grifting, lying, narcissistic bully.

The audience, selected to pay homage to Trump, embarrassed this country by their continuing adoration and addiction to being entertained by the greatest threat to decency and respectability of the United States. The audience was obviously handpicked with no truly challenging or insightful questions asked. Donald Trump was provided a platform for a virtually uninterrupted monologue of lies, grievances, spewing venom and laughter inducing insults. That was to be expected.

CNN should receive the most condemnation for allowing this campaign rally, advertised as a town hall, to have occurred in view of the pending criminal investigations, a criminal indictment and a finding of responsibility for sexual assault and defamation. CNN may have had a boost in its ratings for this performance but it has lost respect and credibility of a large swath of viewers who understand that this was naked commercialism and not a fair and balanced presentation.
