I’m writing to share something I learned recently: the Department of Justice is investigating allegations made by three Democratic senators regarding price-fixing and collusion by an AI software company RealPage and various large multi-family rental property owners throughout the country. They have allegedly been using non-public information to raise rental rates, effectively creating a cartel. These practices have likely accelerated the crisis in houselessness we are witnessing across the country. When critics call the current administration feckless, remember that these actors were emboldened on the last president’s watch.
