I recently attended a tour of the Jones Library in downtown Amherst. It was quite a journey through the labyrinth of the library. Remarks by capital campaign co-chair Kent Faerber highlighted the library's intense use — nearly a quarter million visitors and more than 1,000 meetings held each year — that makes it such a key resource for the town. The potential of an enhanced library to stimulate not only social and cultural, but also economic life is an aspect of the project I'll bet most people don't consider. The proposed design sensitively transforms the library bringing light and air into newly unified interior spaces. I encourage everyone in the region to support the renovation and expansion of this local gem.
