AMHERST — Javier Reyes, interim chancellor at the University of Illinois-Chicago, and Paul Tikalsky, dean of The College of Engineering, Architecture & Technology at Oklahoma State University, are the finalists to replace Kumble Subbaswamy, who is retiring in June.

Both Tikalsky and Reyes were on campus in recent days to meet with faculty, students and staff, as well as community leaders, with listening sessions held at the Old Chapel coordinated by the UMass Amherst Chancellor Search Committee, chaired by Victor Woolridge.

Their names are being forwarded to UMass President Marty Meehan and the board of trustees for a decision.

How soon a choice of a successor to Subbaswamy will be made is uncertain. Last spring at UMass Lowell, three finalists visited that campus between May 2 and May 4, and on May 9 Julie Chen was named the new chancellor.
