The Northampton girls swimming team did just enough to squeak by Belchertown 77-73 on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 2-2 on the year. With the loss, the Orioles dropped to 1-2-1.

The Blue Devils’ Amalia Guerra earned first in the 200-yard individual medley, Annika Bergstreiser won the 500 freestyle, and Ursula Von Goeler, Saumya Kulp, Caiel Kilip-Leonard, and Juliet Mitchell combined to win the 200 freestyle relay to round out the Northampton first-place finishers.

Aubrey Harrington, Valerie Williams, Cheri Willems, and Alex Malajka won the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, Harrington won the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, Willems won the 50 freestyle, Malajka won the 100 freestyle, Williams won the 100 breaststroke, and Destiny Ranzie won the 100 backstroke to round out the Belchertown winners.

On the boys’ side, Belchertown (4-0) remained unbeaten with a 111-49 victory over Northampton (2-2).

Ryan Gould, Luke Giguere, JR Zlogar, and Ryan Shea took home first in the 200 medley relay, Giguere won the 200 freestyle relay and the 100 backstroke, Gould took first in the both 50 and 100 freestyle, Zlogar won the 100 butterfly, Drake Dragon won the 500 freestyle, and then Dragon joined Giguere, Gould, and Shea in the 400 freestyle relay to take first.

The first-place winners for Northampton were Jack Mattison-Gulotta in the 200 individual medley, and 100 breaststroke, and Mattison-Gulotta, Tyler Palm, Theo Bayne, Reed Mitchell in the 200 freestyle relay.

Belchertown travels to East Longmeadow on Thursday, while Northampton is off until Jan. 11 against Ludlow.
