With the top team in the Hampshire League North in town, the Hampshire Regional boys basketball team had an opportunity to shake things up in the league standings on Tuesday night.

Visiting Athol did just enough to stay atop the HL North however, as the Bears improved to 13-1 overall, 10-0 in the league via a 58-50 victory in Westhampton.

The Raiders, which had their three-game winning streak snapped, dropped to 8-6, 6-4.

Ben Pierce scored 14 points to pace Hampshire. Adam Golasinski followed with 11 points and Liam Pond tossed in eight. Braylon Jarrett hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with seven points for the Raiders.

Tuesday’s win sealed a regular season sweep for Athol, which also got past Hampshire 42-35 when the teams met earlier this season in Athol. Hampshire returns to action on Friday at Frontier Regional.

Smith Academy 60, Mount Greylock 58 (OT) – It was an overtime win at a key time for the Falcons, which got past the Mounties on Tuesday night.

Smith Academy, which was right at No. 32 in the most recent MIAA Division 5 Power Rankings, improved to 8-6 with the win – its second in a row and fourth in the last five games.

The Falcons outscored Mount Greylock 5-3 in the extra session. Greg Stone scored 20 points (and added six steals) to pace the offensive output, while Garrett Willard went for 17, Connor Kowalski added 12 and Cam Graves tossed in nine points and 12 rebounds.

Pope Francis 70, Amherst 62 – The Cardinals built a 41-23 halftime lead and held off a fourth-quarter rally to earn the Valley Wheel victory in Springfield on Tuesday.

Brandon Stewart and Ryder Rietkerk each scored 14 points for the Hurricanes (7-7), while Marcielo Aquino scored 10 points and Spencer Waite added eight.

Amherst returns home to host Springfield International Charter School on Friday.

South Hadley 79, Renaissance 53 – Leading by just two points at halftime, the Tigers kicked things into overdrive in the third quarter on Tuesday.

South Hadley outscored the Phoenix by a 29-13 margin in the third, ultimately pulling away for the decisive victory.

Jack Loughrey poured in a game-high 23 points for the Tigers, and Tim Loughrey followed with a season-high 17 points. Noah Hambley (16 points) and Owen Dawson (11) made it four South Hadley players in double figures.

Frontier 68, Hopkins 53 — Max Millette put on a show for the Redhawks, scoring 29 points to propel Frontier to a Hampshire League South win over the Golden Hawks at Goodnow Gymnasium on Tuesday. 

Frontier led 36-22 at the half. 

Owen Babb scored 10 points, Caiden Manning finished with nine points, Nico Fasulo and Rowan Modestow both tallied six points while Garrett Dredge added four points in the win. 

James Fitzgibbons scored 21 points for Hopkins. 

Girls basketball

Frontier 44, Belchertown 42 (OT) — The Redhawks outscored the Orioles 6-4 in the extra session, springing a huge road victory on Tuesday night in Belchertown.

It was the fifth win in a row for Frontier, which improved to 13-2 overall with the victory.

Skyler Steele and Claire Kirkendall led the way offensively with 12 points apiece for the Hawks, while Harper Modestow went for eight points and Hailey Hutkoski added six.

Belchertown’s Morghan Litz scored 13 points, with teammate Chloe LaRoche joining her in double figures with 11. Laura Cote added nine points for the hosts.

PV Christian 46, Smith Voc 24 – Jayanna Daniels scored eight points and Makayla Tatro tallied seven points for the Vikings in a Tri-County League loss on Tuesday night.

Boys swimming

Holyoke 53, Hampden Charter 36 – Julian Vann (200 free, 3:17.22), Jared Lapite (50 free, 26.47), Brady Pjar (100 fly, 57.97) and Michael Goudreault (100 backstroke, 1:58.28) all picked up individual victories for the Purple Knights in Tuesday’s win.       

Northampton 66, Easthampton 15 — Jack Mattison-Gulotta and Mitchell Reed won two individual events apiece for the Blue Devils in Tuesday's regular season finale victory at JFK Middle School.

Mattison-Gulotta was first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.16) and 100 butterfly (52.66) to aid Northampton, while Reed won the 50 freestyle (23.71) and 100 breaststroke (1:03.04).

Easthampton's Tyler Hetu won the diving event (250.95 points), and seventh grader Max Kreuger was the 100 freestyle winner (1:22.95).

Northampton's Cole Mattison-Gulotta won the 500 free (5:54.79), and the Devils swept the relays.

Girls swimming

Holyoke 99, Hampden Charter 8 – Adaline Woods and Trinity Roy won two events apiece as the Purple Knights cruised in their regular season finale on Tuesday.

Woods won the 200 IM (2:49.41) and 500 freestyle (6:31.25), while Roy touched first in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.90) and 100 backstroke (1:11.38).

Northampton 117, Easthampton 40 — Annika Bergstreiser (200 free, 2:27.43), Amalia Guerra (200 IM, 2:11.70; 100 back, 59.42), Olivia Wright (50 free, 34.50), Juliet Mitchell (100 breaststroke, 1:35.12), Ursula Von Goeler (1 meter dive, 245.6 score), Jayda Alejandro (100 butterfly, 1:28.47), Willa O’Donnell (100 free, 1:10.15) and Saumya Kulp (500 free, 6:40.14) had individual wins for the Blue Devils in a victory over the Eagles on Tuesday.
