HATFIELD — The town election on May 16 will feature contested elections for three-year seats on the Select Board and Board of Health, and the three-year position as town clerk.

With nomination forms due late last month, the ballot will feature a three-way race for a Select Board seat between Amie M. Jones, Gregory J. Gagnon and Kerry E. Flaherty. That seat is being vacated by Brian Moriarty.

The three-year seat on the Board of Health is being contested by Susan Mercure Slysz and Timothy Joseph Menz, who ran unsuccessfully for the panel last year. The seat is currently held by Elizabeth Jane Kugler.

Town Clerk Lydia Szych is stepping down after 10 years in the job. Those who are running for the position are Alaina E. Wilcox, the assistant town clerk, and Katrina L. Letourneau.

In another change, Robert E. Betsold is the lone candidate for moderator after incumbent moderator Joseph A. Lavallee, first elected in 2002, didn’t return papers.

Incumbents are running unopposed for many seats including Rebecca W. Bench and Christy L. Boudreau for three-year seats on the School Committee, James A. Lavallee for a three-year seat on the Board of Assessors, Jonathan W. Bardwell for a three-year seat on the Cemetery Commission, John Jeffress for a five-year seat on the Planning Board, Christopher G. Smith for a five-year seat on the Redevelopment Authority and Marsha L. Humphrey for a three-year seat as library trustee. Kathleen A. Sheehan, appointed to the library trustees, is seeking to complete the remaining two years.

Szych is pursuing a one-year term as Elector under the Will of Oliver Smith, while a Housing Authority position for five years is open after Michael Hogan didn’t return papers.
