NORTHAMPTON – A former Easthampton man pleaded guilty to charges of child rape on Friday and was sentenced to five years at the Hampshire County Jail and House of Corrections followed by five years probation.

Kevin Paulin pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, two counts of statutory rape of a child and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. His plea came on the morning his trial by jury was to start.

Five of the assaults took place in Easthampton between August 2008 and September 2010, court records show, and involved a child who was then between 12 and 16. The other assault occurred in Belchertown between September 2010 and January 2011.

Paulin, who has been living in Palmer, was sentenced to 2-½ years in jail for each of charge of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and five years of probation to be served concurrently on the remaining charges.

Paulin will have to abide by certain conditions during probation such as register as a sex offender with the Sex Offender Registry Board, submit a DNA sample, and wear a electronic monitoring bracelet. He also was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16, no overnight visits with anyone who has a child under 16 and no employment involving child care work.
