Eversource Energy will be flying a helicopter over western Massachusetts Thursday and Friday to inspect high voltage equipment.

The helicopter will be blue and silver, with tail number N1431W, and inspections will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, weather permitting, according to the company.

“The helicopter will be flying low and slow,” said Priscilla Ress, an Eversource spokeswoman. “If people see a helicopter flying that low, we want them to know what’s going on.”

According to a media advisory sent by the utility company, the inspections are “an important part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable electric service.”

The helicopter will use heat-sensing and infrared scanning technology to identify potential problems before they occur.

“This inspection is semiannual, so it’s one of two that happens during the year,” Ress said. “The other happens sometime in winter. If there’s a big storm, too, we’ll sometimes do an inspection after that.”
