AMHERST — Around 300 customers, including a number of businesses in downtown Amherst and both the Town Hall and the Bangs Community Center buildings, lost their power Tuesday morning.

Eversource announced that 305 customers were affected by the equipment damage at 8:13 a.m., with an estimated restoration time of 2:45 p.m.

Eversource spokeswoman Priscilla Ress said crews are on scene on North Pleasant Street, where the malfunction originated.

“The cable failure is in our underground system, and we have to find the location of the damage before repairs can be made and power restored,” Ress said. “We expect to have repairs made and power restored by mid-afternoon.”

Town Hall and the Bangs, though, were both closed for the day as a result of the outage.

Brianna Sunryd, who handles communications for the town, said that police officers were at the affected traffic light that was out at the intersection of Main, Amity, North Pleasant and South Pleasant streets. In addition, temporary stop signs were set up there.
