DEERFIELD — While every race in the May 1 town election is uncontested, residents will have a chance to elect a new Deerfield School Committee member.

With School Committee member Ken Cuddeback choosing not run for reelection after more than 30 years on the board, Raina Kittilstved hopes to fill the position, which carries a three-year term.

The election will be held at Deerfield Town Hall, 8 Conway St., from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Kittilstved, 47, is a lab instructor in the chemistry department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and has been president of Deerfield Elementary School’s Parent-Teacher Association for four of the last six years. She said she is running for the open School Committee seat to get more involved in the school and local government.

“I’ve always been interested in the inner workings of local government and the School Committee, and learning about how all those decisions are made,” she explained. “I’ve been pleased with this administration’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and I’d like to be a part of that.”

Kittilstved added she’s interested in helping “shape the policies” of the school and wants to give back to the community. Lingering pandemic effects and annual budget constraints are among the challenges facing Deerfield Elementary — and every other school — and Kittilstved said she’d like to “help problem solve and figure this stuff out” to the best of her ability.

The other positions on the May 1 ballot are as follows:

■Selectboard, three-year term — Trevor McDaniel, incumbent.
