SOUTH DEERFIELD — Officials have identified the victim of Thursday’s crash on Sugarloaf Street as 19-year-old Sarah Bresnahan of Easton.

Bresnahan, the sole occupant of a blue Toyota SUV, died after her vehicle crashed into a large tree in front of 50 Sugarloaf St. near the village center at 5:44 p.m.

University of Massachusetts Amherst spokesman Ed Blaguszewski confirmed Friday night that Bresnahan was a first-year student at UMass with a major in accounting.

“The university mourns her loss and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to her family and friends,” Blaguszewski said.

According to a press release from Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the Northwestern district attorney’s office, the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Deerfield Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
