CUMMINGTON — Town Meeting will be held Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m. at the Community House, 33 Main St.

Voters will be asked to approve a $2.7 million budget, reflecting a spending increase of $277,745, or 10.7%, over FY 2024 levels.

Some of the increase comes from proposed capital spending, such as $75,000 for a new police cruiser. The police budget also boosts the salary line item by $35,600.

The 2025 budget includes new spending in the form of $29,692 for building maintenance salary. General government spending, at $332,088, is up by $56,364, or 19%.

Proposed education spending at $828,823 is up by $10,062, or 1.2%, while the public works budget is up by $17,416, or 3%.

The human services budget shows an increase of $18,604, or 15.7%, while retirement and medical insurance again take a substantial jump of $37,000, or 16%.

Other items on the warrant include a proposed name change, from “Board of Selectmen” to “Selectboard,” in the town’s general bylaws and zoning bylaws.

Voters will also be asked to appropriate money for the town’s 250th anniversary celebration in 2029.

The town election is Monday, May 13, from 1 to 8 p.m.

Those up for election to municipal office include a large slate of incumbents who are unopposed.

There are two vacant five-year seats on the Planning Board. None of the three incumbents is facing reelection.

There is also a vacancy on the Recreation Committee with Laurie Freitag stepping down. Incumbents Donna Forgea and Amy Grallert are seeking reelection to two of the three-year positions.

Newcomer Mikaela Mennen has filed for one of the two seats on the Municipal Light Plant Board along with incumbent Allan Douglas. Incumbent Todd Emerson is not seeking reelection.

Caucus nominee Troy Howes is the candidate for a one-year seat on the Finance Committee. Incumbents Scott Keith and Maureen Tumenas are both seeking reelection to the three-year seats.
