State reports 420 new COVID-19 cases, 35 more deaths

NORTHAMPTON — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 420 new cases of confirmed COVID-19 infections on Friday and 35 new deaths, in addition to 74 new probable cases. There are now 98,796 confirmed cases statewide and 7,097 deaths among those cases.

The state reported on Friday that 9,760 new tests for the virus were conducted, and 631,008 tests have been performed overall.

The state has reported 900 confirmed cases and 95 deaths in Hampshire County, 337 cases and 48 deaths in Franklin County and 6,297 cases and 610 deaths in Hampden County. Among confirmed cases, the average age of death is 82, the average age of hospitalization is 68, and the average age of those infected is 52.

Among people with confirmed cases, 1,533 are hospitalized, 350 of whom are in intensive care units.

The seven-day weighted average of positive test rates has decreased by 82%  since April 15, while the three-day average of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has decreased by 55% within this same period.

Area hospitals

Cooley Dickinson Hospital reported on Friday that it is treating eight inpatients with confirmed COVID-19 infection, four of whom are in the intensive care unit.

An additional 72 outpatients and one inpatient are under investigation for COVID-19 infection. To date, the hospital has had 737 people test positive.

Baystate Health is treating 37 inpatients for confirmed COVID-19 infection, including five patients in critical care units. Thirty-six of these patients are hospitalized at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Twenty-two inpatients are under investigation for COVID-19 infection overall.

Baystate Health has tested 14,812 individuals in total, with 1,802 testing positive, 12,962 testing negative and 44 pending results.
