Commission on status women, girls to induct board members

SOUTH HADLEY — Members of the Hampshire-Franklin Commission of the Status of Women and Girls will be sworn in as commissioners in a ceremony at the South Hadley Library at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Denise Brown, Ginetta Candelario and Chelsea Kline, all of Northampton, Bonnie MacCracken of Amherst, Linda-Jeanne Mack of Easthampton and Marcia Plant Jackson of Leverett will be among the nine members of the commission. They will be joined by Keleigh Pereira of Turner Falls, Anais Surkin of Greenfield and Francia Wisnewski of Montague.

Based on the legislation that created the commission, members will be responsible for conducting an ongoing study of matters concerning women. The commission, along with its counterpart in Hampden County, will report findings to the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women each year, and recommend solutions to the challenges facing women and girls in the region.

All appointees were selected from candidates representing strength and diversity in terms of geography, age, professional background and personal experiences, and share a common commitment to the improvement of the status of women in the regions.
