School notes: New nutrition director in Amherst, Belchertown library media specialist honored, Smith Academy to screen film

 Hatfield schools to screen film

HATFIELD —  The school district plans to screen “Angst,” a documentary about anxiety, on Sept. 25, at 6 p.m., at Hatfield Elementary School. Interviews in the film include swimmer Michael Phelps and young people who have been affected by anxiety.

A panel discussion including a child therapist and an education professor will follow the film. Hatfield Embraces Awareness and Dismantling Stigma, a mental health awareness group, is also hosting the event.

New nutrition services director for Amherst schools 

AMHERST — Michael Gallo O’Connell was hired to be the school nutrition services director for Amherst, Pelham and Amherst-Pelham regional schools, the districts announced in early August. Previously, O’Connell worked at Hampshire College as the food service program general manager, where he increased the school’s use of local food, Amherst schools said in an announcement.

Belchertown library media specialist named ambassador

BELCHERTOWN — Brennan Murray, a library media specialist at Belchertown High School, has been named a 2019 WGBH Educator Ambassador.

Ambassadors are a group of 16 Massachusetts teachers who act as a sounding board for WGBH education initiatives, including PBS LearningMedia, which creates free digital learning resources for over 1.6 million teachers nationwide. The educators were selected for their expertise and commitment to education in the state.

 St. Michael’s 50th coming up

NORTHAMPTON — The Class of 1969 of the former St. Michael’s High School in Northampton is planning a 50th reunion at the Bluebonnet Diner in Northampton on Saturday, Sept. 7.

Information on the reunion has been mailed to most classmates, however, not everyone was contacted. Helping in location the following classmates would be appreciated: Diane M. Belado Davenport, Ruth A. Griffen MacKenzie, Richard A. LaFontaine, John T. Lebherz, John J. LeBeau, Diane M. Perrier, Gail M. Purchase, Linda J. Suleski Davidson and Thomas White.

Holyoke High School’s 50th

HOLYOKE — Holyoke High School’s Class of 1969 will hold its 50th reunion on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 5:30 p.m., at Wyckoff Country Club, 233 Easthampton Road, Holyoke.

Ticket are $40. The event will include dinner, raffle, music and a cash bar.
