The Station of the Cross Catholic Media Network recently expanded its reach across western Massachusetts. The network now broadcasts on 730 AM in Springfield, reaching western Massachusetts and Hartford, with a potential of over 2.2 million listeners.

Founded in 1999, the Williamsville, New York-based radio station broadcasts Catholic programs, including a mix of national and self-produced shows 24/7. The station was established as an effort to evangelicize listeners.

“We adhere very faithfully to the teachings of the magisterium, and we offer programming that is faithful to that,” said Zach Krajacic, director of appeals and sponsorships at the Station of the Cross. “It’s very bold, and not watered down at all. And we feel that this is really important for people to hear. We’re trying to really touch people’s hearts.”

The launch of the Springfield network in late January comes after stations in Worcestor (1230 AM) and Southbridge (970 AM) were added in January 2022. The three additional stations in Massachusetts complement the existing 1060 AM WQOM station in nearby Boston, which has been broadcasting since 2010 and reaches parts of New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Currently, the network comprises 18 stations and reaches a potential audience of more than 18 million people.

“We look forward to building upon the great foundation that has already been laid and ensuring that even more listeners in the region are able to benefit from edifying Catholic programs that help them live the Catholic faith and grow closer to God,” said Jim Wright, president of The Station of the Cross.

The network aims to reach people already practicing the Catholic faith, those who are no longer practicing, and people of other religions, said Krajacic. Since its expansion into western Massachusetts, Station of the Cross has observed increased financial support, communication and correspondence from its new audiences.

“Ultimately what we want to do is lead people to their local parish where they can be spiritually nourished by the sacraments,” Krajacic said.
