NORTHAMPTON — The Smith College Spring Bulb Show officially opened last Saturday at the Lyman Conservatory and will run through March 17.
Featuring more than 9,000 bulbs brought to flower, visitors can take in a preview of spring colors and scents at the show that draws thousands each year.
The bulb show has been a tradition at Smith since 1901, when it originated along with the college’s first horticulture class.
The show is once again featuring a student-commissioned art installation. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural commission, five students were selected this year through an open call.
The plant house will be open for extended hours for the show:
■Members only, 9-10 a.m. daily.
■10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday-Thursday, general public.
■10 a.m.-8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays, general public.
Guided tours do not take place during the show, but if a group of 10 or more is planning a visit, the college asks that an appointment be made online.
