BELCHERTOWN — Local and state police are investigating bullets striking two homes on Mountain View Drive within the past year and shattering glass doors, including last week, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
Mountain View Drive is located along the Belchertown/Granby town line, and is approximately one mile east of the Granby Bow and Gun Club. No one was injured in the incidents.
“These incidents have understandably caused the residents of this neighborhood a tremendous amount of fear and concern for their safety,” Belchertown Police Chief Kevin Pacunas said in a statement Friday. “We are doing everything we can to determine where these errant bullets are coming from, and to prevent it from happening again.”
In the most recent case, an errant bullet struck and shattered a sliding glass door at a residence on Friday, March 29. The homeowners were at home at the time, though not in the room where the bullet struck, according to police. The residents contacted police after discovering the shattered door, with officers recovering a projectile at the scene and submitting it to the Massachusetts State Police Firearms Identification Section for analysis.
Another wayward bullet struck a different residence on the same street on June 27, 2023. In that incident, at a nearby house, a glass door at the front of the home was struck and shattered by the bullet. Belchertown and Granby Police, along with the DA’s office, investigated that incident, but the bullet’s origin could not be determined.
Anyone with information about the two incidents should contact Belchertown Police Sgt. Robert Mann at 413-323-6685, ext. 279.
