South Hadley needs members for boards,commissions

SOUTH HADLEY — Volunteer opportunities are available on South Hadley boards and committees.

A total of 11 boards and committees have vacancies needing to be filled, including the Capital Planning Committee, Commission on Disabilities, Council on Aging, Cultural Council, Historical Commission, Human Rights Commission, Master Plan Implementation Committee, Sustainability & Energy Commission, Town Meeting Review Committee, Zoning Board of Appeals and Veterans Council.

The Select Board is seeking residents with diverse interests and abilities to apply for these available positions. There are no special requirements for any of the boards and committees (except for the veteran status requirement for the Veterans Council) other than a willingness to serve. However, applicants must be registered to vote in the town of South Hadley.

Those wishing to apply to serve on a board or committee must do so online. See the full list of vacancies and term expirations on the town website at southhadley.org.

Polish Junior League to hold fashion show for scholarship funding

CHICOPEE — The Polish Junior League of Massachusetts will host its annual Fashion Show on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Castle of Knights Banquet Hall in Chicopee.

Fashions from Chico’s and J.Jill of the Longmeadow Shops will be featured. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon served at 12:30 p.m. followed by the Fashion Show.

The profits are used to benefit the league’s college scholarship fund. The scholarships are available to students in Hampden, Franklin, Hampshire and Berkshire counties.

Girls on the Run to host Sneaker Soirée

Girls on the Run of Western MA is hosting its inaugural Sneaker Soirée on Thursday, Oct. 5, from 5:30-8 p.m., at the Springfield Country Club in West Springfield. Guests can wear their favorite sneakers and enjoy an evening of food, fun, and inspiration. The event will feature a silent auction and experiences from local supporters, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar, a wine pull, and an opportunity to hear from GOTR participants and coaches.

General admission for the event is $25 per person. More information and tickets available at girlsontherunwesternma.org/sneaker-soiree.

The silent auction will be available online to event attendees and the public starting on Sept. 28. All item donations are welcome and should be directed to Girls on the Run WMA staff.

Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in third to eighth grade.
