Reception for Olver

AMHERST — A public celebration in memory of former Congressman John W. Olver will be held on Sunday, April 16, at the Olver Design Building at UMass Amherst. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. with reception to follow.

I-391 work to lead to closures

HOLYOKE/CHICOPEE — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will conduct overnight high mast lighting tower removal operations on Interstate 391 southbound on Tuesday starting at 9 p.m. The work will continue until Wednesday at 3 a.m.

During the work, the I-391 southbound on-ramp from Main Street will be closed, with a detour in effect. Temporary traffic control operations will consist of detour signs, message boards, arrow boards, drums and police details will be utilized.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

Art Gallery operators to be featured in Thursday webinar

Valley Arts Mentors is kicking off its 2023 webinar series with “In the Studio: Candid Conversations with Art Gallery Operators” on Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m.

In this free webinar, panelists Dean Brown from PULP Gallery in Holyoke and Rosemary Tracy Woods from Art for the Soul Gallery in Springfield will discuss the ins and outs of running an art gallery. Brown and Woods will share their unique perspectives, providing insights into the art business, exploring artist selection, exhibition curation, marketing and sales strategies and the challenges of staying competitive in a constantly evolving market.

The panel will be moderated by Jason Montgomery (50 Arrow Gallery and Attack Bear Press). An audience Q&A is included. Registration at artsmentors.org

Sen. Warren announces reelection bid

BOSTON — U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren officially announced her reelection campaign on Monday in a video on social media.

“I first ran for Senate because I saw how the system is rigged for the rich and powerful and against everyone else,” Warren said. “I won because Massachusetts voters know it, too. And now I’m running for Senate again because there’s a lot more we’ve got to do.”

The announcement video includes people from across Massachusetts and elected leaders such as U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, U.S. Reps. Ayanna Pressley and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.

Estate planning workshop coming up at Linda Manor

LEEDS — Attorney Karen G. Jackson of Jackson Law in Holyoke will lead an estate planning workshop at Linda Manor Assisted Living in Leeds on April 5 at 1 p.m., highlighting the latest developments in elder law and estate planning.

An elder law and estate planning attorney, Jackson will present “The Big Five: Core Estate Plan,” explaining the importance of each document in a solid estate plan: the will, health care proxy, advance directive, HIPAA release, durable power of attorney and homestead.
