■Dorothy Sears Ainsworth, director of physical education at Smith College for 34 years, received a Presidential Service Award on Friday during the annual convention of the American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, which was held in Anaheim, Calif. The award was made for Miss Ainsworth’s contributions in international relations for health, physical education, and recreation.
■A Holyoke company has purchased the McCallum’s Department Store fixtures and equipment and is offering them for sale to the general public. Items include counters, storage cabinets, shelving racks, mannequins, mirrors of various sizes, display stands, chairs, office furniture, and other miscellaneous articles.
■Duseau Waste Industries, Hampshire County’s primary trash hauler, has been sold to Waste Management Inc., a Houston company with clients on four continents. The announcement was made Thursday by the local company’s majority owner, Armand J. “Buddy” Duseau.
■La Cazuela Restaurant is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month with a “Bank a Birthday Buck” promotion. Throughout the month, for every appetizer ordered, the restaurant will donate a dollar to The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. The restaurant has been a longtime supporter of the Food Bank’s efforts to feed the hungry throughout the region.
■Without a sharp uptick in donations, the skies above Look Park could be very quiet on June 28. That’s because a lack of money to put on the annual Family Fourth Celebration could leave the city without the fireworks and music event this year and in years to come, said committee chairwoman Priscilla Ross.
■Representatives from the New England Treatment Access Inc., the company planning to operate Hampshire County’s only medical marijuana dispensary in Northampton, said Tuesday they intend to occupy a former medical office building on Conz Street not far from Interstate 91, rather than a site in Florence as previously announced.
