Amherst police investigate break-ins to home, vehicles

AMHERST - Police are investigating break-ins to an Amherst home and two vehicles Wednesday night.

The first incident was reported at 8:45 p.m., when a Woodside Avenue resident told police a television set was stolen from his apartment. Detective Richard MacLean said there were no signs of forced entry.

HOLYOKE - Entertainment magnate Eric Suher added to his investment portfolio Thursday by purchasing the Holyoke Country Club off Route 5 behind the Delaney House.

Suher's Iron Horse Entertainment Group, which operates the Calvin Theatre in downtown Northampton and an outdoor music venue at Mountain Park in Holyoke, will take over management of the club immediately.

Arraignment for Dec. 25 break-in delayed

NORTHAMPTON - The Florence woman indicted by a Hampshire County grand jury in connection with a Christmas break-in has had her arraignment in Hampshire Superior Court postponed.

Nancy Gehrung, 48, of 56 Matthew Drive, was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, but was granted the delay by Judge Mary-Lou Rup in order to provide her time to hire her own attorney.

Pair of donations boost area Food Bank

HATFIELD - Two sizable donations from area businesses will help thousands in the area get the food they need this winter.

The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, based in Hatfield, received more than $55,000 from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and $45,288 from a Stop & Shop fundraiser last month.
