Easthampton movie rental store closes; all flicks for sale

EASTHAMPTON - Pick Your Flick, an independent movie rental store on Cottage Street, is closed. Owners Timothy and Elizabeth Jenks announced this week that slow business in the face of fast-moving movie rental technology has forced them to shut down after more than three years in business.

DeBenedetto closes Easthampton medical practice after 26 years

EASTHAMPTON - A physician who practiced medicine in the city for 26 years closed her offices for good Thursday because she has cancer. Dr. Diane DeBenedetto notified patients earlier this month in a newspaper announcement that her 132 Cottage St. office would be closing.

Movie Gallery joins bankruptcy casualties

EASTHAMPTON - The Movie Gallery on Union Street is one of a number of area video rental store casualties brought on by a bankruptcy petition filed in Virginia last week.

The 89 Union St. Movie Gallery, the anchor store of the Union Street plaza for the past 10 years, will close in six weeks, a clerk said Thursday.

Bay State Village gathering spot Smitty's to close

NORTHAMPTON - Smitty's, a general store, breakfast nook and hub for the city's Bay State Village for four decades, will close this weekend. Its owners say they couldn't recover after the closing of the nearby Clement Street Bridge in 2007 drove away customers, many of whom never returned even after the bridge reopened.
