Raymond Villeneuve, French teacher in area

West Covina, Calif. - Raymond Villeneuve, 75, a French teacher for almost 50 years, died of pneumonia Aug. 31 at the Citrus Valley Hospice in West Covina, Calif.

Mr. Villeneuve was born in Louiseville, Quebec, Canada, and moved to Northampton, Mass., when he was 7.

Mary Cargel, 94, Hadley native

WINAMAC, Ind. - Mary R. "G.G." Cargel, 94, died July 10 at the Pulaski Memorial Hospital.

Mary was born Dec. 31, 1913, in Hadley.

A service was held July 14 for Mary at the Frain Mortuary, with the Rev. Martin Sandhage officiating, and she was laid to rest in St. Peter's Cemetery in Winamac.

Catherine Shea, 96, avid Sox and Celtics fan

Northampton - Catherine E. (Mullins) Shea, 96, of Franklin St., died Monday, Sept. 1, at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

Born in Hatfield May 6, 1912, she was the daughter of the late James and Anna (Doppman) Mullins. She attended Smith Academy High School.

AVON PARK, Fla. - Lucy (Silva) Amidon, 52, passed away Aug. 27. She was born to Marie and James Silva May 24, 1956, in Northampton, Mass.

Susan Cumberledge, 52, UMass professor

Belchertown - Susan Lee Cumberledge, 52, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, died July 28 in Worcester, following a long battle with cancer.

HOLYOKE - William E. Dufresne, 96, of Maple Street died Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Willimansett Nursing Center.

NEW BEDFORD - Lindsay Marie (Berniche) Roberge of Wareham, 25, died Aug. 2 in New Bedford after an automobile accident.

Janice Wood, business manager, martial artist

SUNDERLAND - Janice L. Wood, 52, of 215 N. Silver Lane died Aug. 27 at home.

Born Oct. 17, 1955, in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of William J. Wood and Susan (Timpanaro) Wood.

Janice was raised in New Jersey and moved to the Pioneer Valley in 1979. She had lived in Sunderland since 1988.

AMHERST - There will be a celebration of life service and reception Saturday, Sept. 13, for Rose M. Quinton, who passed away July 9 at the age of 81.

The service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Amherst South Congregational Church at 1066 South East St.

NORTHAMPTON - Greta (Ritchie) Bartoszewicz, 87, of 22 Myrtle St., passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born May 5, 1921, in Portsmouth, N.H., the daughter of the late Fred and Edith (Orcutt) Ritchie.
