A few weeks ago my husband and son were pulling out of our driveway when they noticed two women looking at our house. He rolled down his window and asked if he could help them -- they said, "Oh, don't mind us, we grew up in this house and we're in town and thought we'd drive by."

Concerts on the porch in Florence center

One of the more lovely summer traditions in Florence is the Concert on the Porch series, brought to us by the Florence Community Band. This free concert happens every Thursday evening, starting at 6:30 pm, at the civic center (next to the Lilly Library)...

Sweet new hangout

It's been so nice to see the little park with the renovated fountain in Florence center getting a lot of use this summer. It's in kind of an awkward spot, essentially an island with no real way to get to it without crossing a busy street (it's in the center of the area around the Civic Center, VFW, etc), and I wondered how or if anyone would actually ever hang out there.

Whenever I walked by Polaris Gifts (on N. Maple, next to the hardware store), I was tempted to peek in, but the sign always said Closed. I swear I don't ever think I saw it open...

Yesterday was a bit of a frenzy (but nothing compared to today)...just one of those "this kid has a project due for school, and this one has to be at the mullins center for 3 hours, while husband has to go downtown to start writing a play in the next 12 hours" -- you know, a typical Friday.

Florence man has narrow escape in Rte 91 accident

My neighbor was driving home from Vermont last Monday after spending Easter with her family. Looking ahead on the highway, she saw a truck at an odd angle on the median, almost as if it was trying to pull a U-turn on the highway.
