“This insightful and often moving 1981 show penned by Leonard Nimoy transcends the usual clichés surrounding the high-maintenance artist with the tortured relationship to his aural appendage,” writes The Los Angeles Times of “Vincent,” a play by the famed “Star Trek” actor about Vincent Van Gogh. Incorporating excerpts from the 500 letters the artist wrote to his brother Theo — and featuring projections of more than 100 of Vincent’s paintings — the one-man work covers Van Gogh’s failed attempt to become a preacher, his doomed efforts at romantic relationships and his discovery of his true calling as a painter. Presented by Starry Night Theater Company and starring actor James Briggs, it runs through the weekend at the Winifred Arms Theatre at CityStage in Springfield. Remaining shows are tonight at 8; Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. $25. 788-7033, citystage.symphonyhall.org
