BOSTON — When Lee Moses stepped on the field at Fenway Park for warm-ups, the junior cornerback from Rhode Island took a second to soak in the moment.

“I had to stop and look around like, ‘Wow. We’re really here,” he said. “It was an amazing feeling taking everything in. Then it was right back to football.”

The game was the second of three college games in the Fenway Gridiron Series and UMass’ first time every playing in the historic ballpark.

Junior quarterback Andrew Ford said coming out with the 44-31 victory made the novelty much more enjoyable.

“It was a really cool atmosphere to play a football game at. They did a great job with the venue. It was a really cool opportunity and glad we were able to come out with a win,” he said. “That way every time we remember it, it’s a good feeling.”

UMass coach Mark Whipple doesn’t usually let himself notice much beyond game details, but he said it was special at first glance and would be something he’d appreciate the memory of in the future.

“It’s historic,” he said. “When you look at all the things here, it reminds me of being at Lambeau when you walk through the tunnel.”

Whipple thought other than the two teams sharing one sideline, it was a good atmosphere for a game.

“The field was in good shape. The weather wasn’t a factor,” he said. “It was good. We’ve done it now. We’d like to always play one in this area for the people.”

TURNOVER BONANZA — After struggling to get turnovers early in the season, UMass now has 12 in the last four games, including interceptions for touchdowns in each of the last two. Jesse Montiero had the first pick of his career.

MISCELLANEOUS — After missing their first four field goals of the season, Logan Laurent has now made 15 straight since replacing Michael Schreiner at kicker.
