The chemistry between Sam Belardo and Jessica Van Heynigen is strengthening at the right time for the Gateway Regional girls soccer team.

Belardo had two goals both assisted by Van Heynigen in Gateway’s 2-0 win over South Hadley Tuesday in Huntington.

“I think this was our best game,” Steve Estelle. “We played aggressively, made great passes.

Sophie Gatzounas made five saves for the Tigers (5-3-1).

Juliana Dickenson stopped several South Hadley offensive attacks before they could reach keeper Becca Herman, who made one save in the game to notch the shutout for the Gators (7-2-1).

Smith Academy 7, Greenfield 0 — Madeline Niedbala started the scoring for the Falcons (3-5-1) when she found the back of the net just two minutes into the game.

Carey Ellis rained in three goals to add to the lead. Lacey Miastkowski, Hannah Rickert and Charlotte Vannah all scored a goal. Maggie Hession and Julia Dobson each had an assist.

Gabby Tisdale (two saves) and Lilli Lagoy (four) split halves for the shutout.

Amherst Regional 2, Palmer 0 – Sage DeChiara scored the first goal for the Hurricanes (6-1-3) in an away victory.

Jaime Hafner found the back of the net as well for Amherst, while Emma Robson and Andrea Morehouse picked up assists.

Reilly Lebak had seven saves for the Hurricanes.

Belchertown 3, Longmeadow 1 — Kayla Henry scored two goals and assisted on another to give the Orioles a road win.

Emma Leblanc also scored. Picking up assists were Allyson Tatro and Hannah Sugrue.

Samantha Birks made three saves for Belchertown (5-0-3).

Hampshire Regional 2, Central 1 — Sam Tersavich’s goal at the beginning of the second half was the difference in the Raiders’ home win.

Barret LaPlante assisted on the goal. Tersavich had another goal in the first half assisted by UConn commit Vissi Rizos.

Missy Gagnon made five saves for the Raiders (6-2-1).

Northampton 2, East Longmeadow 2 — With six minutes remaining in the game, Jillian McGrath served a pass over the Spartan defense to Alex Berth-Wallace, who scored to give the Blue Devils a tie.

Olivia Pruett scored to make it 1-0 at the beginning of the first half on an assist by Alli Zadworny.

Sydney Lewandowski made six saves for Hamp (3-3-4).

Ware 2, Frontier Regional 1 — Kara Felton scored on an assist from Sarah Meunier in a road loss.

Eliza Desmarais stopped 12 shots for Frontier (4-5).

Boys soccer

Central 0, Easthampton 0 — Drew Caires made 10 saves to keep a clean sheet at home.

Chris Williams and Fran Fuhrmann had scoring chances for Easthampton (4-5-1).

Field hockey

Northampton 1, Mohawk 0 — Anna Kerwood scored a breakaway goal with an assist from Megan McCarthy at 13:46 of the first half as the Blue Devils (7-2-2) won in Buckland.

Danielle Parent made four saves in front of a defense that stopped 12 corners.

Smith Academy 3, Minnechaug 3 — The Falcons scored late to pick up a home tie.

Izzy Duseau’s second goal knotted the game for Smith Academy (2-4-2).

Santana Dubois picked up an assist on Duseau’s first half goal. Karlie Guimond also scored, while Taeghan Cavanaugh made 11 saves in net.

South Hadley 1, Holyoke 1 — A diving save by Brittany Cote helped preserve a tie for the Tigers at home.

The save occurred with less than four minutes to play in the game. Cote ended up with four saves.

Hannah Menard’s goal came on an assist from Taylor Gelinas.

South Hadley (6-2-2) had 14 shots to Holyoke’s four and dominated possession throughout the game.
