Red Sox’s Ramirez, Rodriguez have surgeries

BOSTON (AP) — The Red Sox say designated hitter Hanley Ramirez and pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez are recovering from offseason surgical procedures.

The team said Tuesday that Ramirez underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his left shoulder, and Rodriguez had ligament reconstruction in his right knee. Both surgeries were performed by Dr. James Andrews in Florida.

Rodriguez is expected to return to pitching in six months. The team anticipates Ramirez will be ready in time for the 2018 season.

In his third season with Boston, Ramirez hit .242 and was second on the team with 23 home runs in 133 games. He started 108 games at DH and 17 at first base.

Rodriguez went 6-7 in 24 starts in 2017, missing a total of 40 games with right knee subluxation.

City council OKs stadium resolution

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island city council will support legislation that calls for the city and the state to commit $38 million toward a new stadium for a Boston Red Sox minor league team.

At a special meeting Tuesday night, the Pawtucket City Council approved a resolution encouraging the General Assembly to allow the city to bond up to $15 million for the cost of the proposed Pawtucket Red Sox stadium.

The council voted 6-2, with one council member abstaining. The resolution isn’t needed to pass the legislation.

The PawSox says the team’s longtime home, McCoy Stadium, is out of date and wants to replace it.

Critics have said the deal should not rely on taxpayer money. Supporters worry the team will leave Pawtucket.

New Mullins Center entry procedures

For the 2017-18 season, the Mullins Center is implementing new entry procedures for guests.

All guests may be subject to opening any coats, bags or containers of any type and also being physically patted down or screened with a metal detector. If contraband is detected, the guest will be asked to dispose of the item(s) prior to entering the building.

Purses, diaper bags, and other small personal bags are allowed, but will be inspected at all entrances. No storage or check-in area will be provided for items not permitted inside the arena. Items confiscated at the entrance will not be returned.

UMass recommends arriving at the Mullins Center when the doors open one hour before gametime.

The following items are not permitted inside the Mullins Center: Professional cameras; audio/video recording devices; backpacks; over-sized purses; large bags or boxes; outside food or beverages; cans, bottles, coolers or similar containers; laser pens or laser products; noise making devices (horns, whistles, etc.); projectiles (including beach balls and frisbees); oversized signs (larger than 2×3); masks; strollers; tobacco products, e-cigarettes, vapes, lighters, etc.; illegal products; drug paraphernalia or alcohol; knives, guns, chains or clubs; any other item deemed unacceptable by management.
