Holly Perry, left, and Jim Seltzer of Easthampton take their dogs, Holmes, a five-month-old blue pointer mix standing at the bow, and Luddy, right, a seven-month-old terrier mix, on a cruise around Elwell Island in the Connecticut River at Northampton on Wednesday. It was the first time aboard a kayak for the pups, who were fitted out with their own personal flotation devices. It was a successful maiden voyage and they seemed to take to the crafts - save for a few concerned vocalizations heard from Holmes.
