SOUTHAMPTON — A three-run third inning set the wheels in motion for the Southampton 10U softball team’s second straight Little League District 2 title as the all-star squad got past Wilbraham, 6-3, at Norris Elementary School on Wednesday night.

Under a punishing sun on Tuesday afternoon, the Amherst Hurricanes bested Greenfield 7-1 in a Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League Sandy Koufax matchup. Game time temperatures sat at 100 degrees, but it didn’t seem to slow down Amherst one bit.

In a rivalry bout with the Western Massachusetts Suburban Baseball League 14U championship on the line, it was Northampton that struck early and never looked back – earning a wire-to-wire 6-1 victory over Amherst on Saturday to claim the title.

Maceo Nteta and Dylan Lawrence-Riddell led the way for a potent Northampton offense on Monday evening at Legion Field in a 14U baseball matchup with Palmer, as the duo combined for six hits and seven RBI. That strong one-two punch helped Northampton defeat Palmer 20-4 in decisive fashion.

AMHERST — A University of Massachusetts student majoring in sociology, Prachi Dayal regularly interacts with survivors of domestic violence as a legal intern at Safe Passage in Northampton, talking to these individuals and ensuring they and their families get the help they need.

The Northampton Parks & Recreation Department is offering fall youth and rec soccer programs for youth entering preschool through sixth grade. Youth soccer (preschool through second grade) will be held on Saturday mornings at Sheldon Field from Sept. 7 to Oct. 26, while rec soccer (third grade through sixth) begins as early as Sept. 4 and runs through Nov. 3.

Registration is open for all of the Northampton Parks & Recreation’s Summer Youth Sports Programs. These programs are offered to youth of all skills levels interested in learning or developing their sport-specific skills.
