I am compelled to write this endorsement of Garrick Perry, who is running to serve as the councilor representing Ward 4, because the entire city would benefit from his service.
When issues around equity and racial justice present themselves, Garrick will speak and deliberate from experience rather than observation. His investment in the policies and laws will have a real and tangible effect on his family and on the community he has lived in for two decades. When he negotiates proposals addressing climate change and our schools, he will be doing so knowing he will be determining the future for his two daughters.
Meeting Garrick, I was struck by his devotion to Northampton. He sees the city clearly, warts and all; and he is hopeful, which inspired me to hope. The other thing I discovered is that Garrick talks with you, not at you.
That difference is a quality that would serve the residents of Ward 4 well as we all move forward into the uncertain future.
